With 33 entries on hand for the $5,000-to-win event, which was sanctioned by the Southeastern Crate Association (SECA), Chris started his outing by qualifying fastest in time trials. He would back up his qualifying effort by winning his heat race.

In the redraw Ferguson was the recipient of the 2nd-starting position for the 60-lap finale. He would battle at the front of the field throughout the feature before ultimately settling into a 3rd-place finish behind race winner, Trent Ivey, and Ryan Atkins.

“We had a really good car, but just couldn’t quite get to the lead,” said Ferguson. “I’m just so grateful that Jeremy and Tina [Bullins] provide me this great car to drive. Hopefully I can put it in Victory Lane for them in the very near future.”

March 11, 2017 - Ferguson Pulls Double Duty in Skyler Trull Memorial at Carolina Speedway
After pulling double duty at Carolina Speedway's Skyler Trull Memorial in both crate and super late model features, Mt. Holly, N.C driver Chris Ferguson completes strong outing.

In the Carolina Clash Super Late Model Series, "Fergy" timed in fastest out of 22 entries. On the start of the feature, outside front-row starter Johnny Pursley jumped to the lead early. After chasing down Pursley for the first 15 laps, the Champion Spark Plugs powered #22 drove around the leader on the outside of turns 3 and 4. Afterwards Ferguson led the remaining 25 circuits to capture what everyone thought was his 4th Skyler Trull Memorial win. Upon weighing the car after the feature, the #22 car came up 6 pounds light. Unfortunately, Fergy was disqualified from the feature event for not making minimum weight.

Immediately following the Super Late Model feature, Ferguson jumped into the Jeremy Bullins owned #22 Rocket Chassis Crate Late Model. After qualifying 7th and winning his preliminary heat race, "Fergy" rolled off the feature in the 7th-starting spot. Using the bottom groove, the Joes Racing Products #22 car made his way to 3rd place. Using a late race restart, Ferguson diced his way to 2nd place. Unfortunately the feature ended a few laps too short for the hometown driver, after closing in on feature winner Timbo Mangum nearing the checkered flag.
