September 22, 2018 - Chris Ferguson Wins Cotton Pickin' 100 Opener; 7th in Saturday's Finale
Chris Ferguson drove his Diff-Tran Machining #22 K and K Trucking/ Sweet-Bloomquist Race Car/ Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model to the $4,000 windfall on Friday night during the opening round of the annual Magnolia State Cotton Pickin’ 100 at Magnolia Motor Speedway.

It was his second win of 2018 and his first in his new Sweet-Bloomquist Race Car.

“Friday night was just an incredible night for our team,” Ferguson noted. “To pass a Hall of Famer like Billy Moyer in the closing laps on a track that was that slick is something I don’t know if I ever dreamed I’d be able to do. It was a really special night. We started out with a good car on Saturday night, but we didn’t expect the track to go the way it did, and we were way too tight. Not the finish we wanted, but still were very happy with the weekend as a whole.

“Thanks to my crew, Dad, Brandon Conard and Brandon Hightower for their hard work throughout the weekend. Special thanks to all my sponsors for allowing us to live our dream and also to all the fans for the support!”

On Friday night Chris Ferguson made the trip to Magnolia Motor Speedway (Columbus, Mississippi) for the opening round of the two-day Magnolia State Cotton Pickin’ 100.

In a field of 57 Super Late Models, Ferguson followed up the fastest time overall in qualifying with a 10-lap heat race victory.

Earning the pole position for the opening night feature, Ferguson slipped back to second during the events early stages but tracked down race-leader Billy Moyer in the final 10 laps. Using lap-traffic to his advantage, Chris passed Moyer on lap-27 en route to his second win of the season and a $4,000 payday. Dale McDowell, Billy Moyer, Jack Sullivan, and Jason Hiett completed the Top-5 finishers in the 30-lap affair.

The following night, Chris topped the 57-car field in qualifying before cruising to a heat race win. Rolling off the starting grid from the pole position for the $12,000-to-win finale, Ferguson led multiple laps early before beginning to battle the handle on his familiar No. 22 Super Late Model. He would fight a tight condition throughout the remainder of the event, and would even challenge for the lead late before ultimately crossing the finish line in the seventh position.
