Ferguson attends Last Call at Charlotte, runner-up finish in Ultimate action at Gastonia
After officials were forced to postpone the Can-Am World Finals to 2021 due Covid-19 restrictions, Chris Ferguson made the short trip to the Dirt Track at Charlotte (Concord, N.C.) on Wednesday night for the Last Call. In a stout field of 55 World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series entries, Ferguson followed up the sixth fastest time in his qualifying group with a 10-lap heat race victory. Receiving the fourth-starting position for the opening night feature via the redraw, Chris ran in the Top-10 for the first half the 50-lapper but a spin late in the race saw him retire early.
The following night for another $12,000-to-win A-Main, Chris outdueled Kyle Larson in his heat race to pick up the win. With the redraw positioning him fifth on the starting grid, Ferguson suffered a flat left-rear tire on lap 11 while running in fourth. On Friday afternoon at Lancaster Speedway (Lancaster, S.C.) for the Ultimate Southeast Series sanctioned program, Ferguson secured his spot into the A-Main with the seventh fastest lap in his time trial group. With $5,000 on the line, Chris gained one spot in the 40-lapper to finish 12th.
In a field of 19 Ultimate Southeast Series entries on Saturday at Carolina Speedway (Gastonia, N.C.), Chris topped the charts in his qualifying group, which positioned him second on the starting grid for the $5,000-to-win finale. After losing some ground early in the feature, Ferguson rebounded late in the 40-lap affair to finish second behind Ross Bailes with Trent Ivey, Tyler Carpenter, and Derrick Ramey rounding out the Top-5.
