Chris Ferguson
Podium finish in Tribute to Don & Billie Gibson at Wheatland
After Mother Nature shifted Thursday’s event to Friday afternoon, Chris Ferguson was one of 58 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) entries on hand at Lucas Oil Speedway (Wheatland, Mo.) on Friday for the Cowboy Classic. Following the 11th fastest time in his qualifying group, Ferguson edged his way into the $6,000-to-win preliminary feature with the third-and-final transfer spot in his heat race. For the Tribute to Don & Billie Gibson later Friday evening, Chris came in fifth in his heat before placing second in his B-Main behind Garrett Alberson. Locked into the 23rd-starting position for the feature, Ferguson advanced through the field 20 spots in the 40-lap affair to register an impressive third-place finish. He trailed Josh Richards and Shane Clanton to the checkers with Brandon Sheppard and Kyle Bronson rounding out the Top-5.
With preliminary results on Friday pinning Ferguson eighth on the starting grid for Saturday night’s $30,000-to-win Show-Me 100, Chris brought out the first caution of the race on lap 37 with a broken driveshaft after running in sixth and challenging for fifth.
