Fergy Time salvages sixth in North-South 100 at Florence
Chris Ferguson entered his Spartan Transportation No. 22 Late Model into battle with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) at Florence Speedway (Union, Ky.) as a pair of prelims on Thursday kicked off the 41st running of the North-South 100 weekend.
Despite being roughed up by another competitor in his heat race, Ferguson edged his way into his preliminary feature with the fifth-and-final transfer spot in his heat. With $5,000 on the line, Chris marched through the field 12 spots in the 25-lap affair to score a sixth-place finish.
For another round of prelims on Friday, Chris laid down the fifth-fastest lap in his time trial group before placing second in his heat. Vying for another $5,000 payday in his preliminary feature, Ferguson rolled to a fifth-place finish, which came behind Ricky Thornton Jr., Daulton Wilson, Ryan Gustin, and Mike Marlar.
Rolling off on the second row of his heat race on Saturday, Ferguson secured his spot into the $75,000-to-win Sunoco North-South 100 with a runner-up showing. Locked into the 10th-starting position for the main event, Chris ran as high as fourth but got spun around by another competitor on lap 37 that relegated him to the tail. Nearly cracking the top-five from the back in the remaining distance, Ferguson passed 12 cars to salvage a sixth-place finish in the 100-lapper.
